techtextil

Highly flame-retardant, flexible and lightweight FILK Freiberg together with Fulcoline GmbH & Co. KG, Hofbieber (Germany) present a high performance material based on a basalt fibre-polymer-composite at techtextil 2019 in Frankfurt/Main (Germany)

The new lightweight composite complies with the requirements of fire rating class A2 for building materials and can be applied wherever particularly high demands with regard to fire protection are set, especially where partition elements serve as fire protection walls simultaneously. This is the case in airports, in ship and container construction, rail vehicle construction, hall construction, in the contract sector and public buildings. So far, only rigid and heavy composite panels achieve these fire protection properties. The new composite material is characterised by:

  • Non-flammability according to building material class A2 - DIN 13501
  • Flexible roll-to-roll material
  • Lightweight and flexible to process
  • Closed surface

These properties are generated by a material combination of an organic substrate based on basalt fibres and an organic polymer layer based in silicon. The material was developed in a joint project of FILK Freiberg and Fulcoline GmbH & Co. KG (Hofbieber, Germany). The project was funded within in the program ZIM by BMWi (Federal Ministry of Economics and Energy). Together the two enterprises will present this new high-performance material at this year´s techtextil in Frankfurt, Hall 3.1, Booth E46.

Further Topics

The institute´s experts will be available for any kind of questions or information on flexible polymer composites such as leather, coated textiles and similar composite materials at the international leading fair for technical textiles and non-wovens. Visitors can inquire about many reserach and developement projects resulting in innovative membranes, laminates and material compounds.

Accredited Test Lab

Staff members of the institute´s accredited test lab with its wide range of services will be available as well. Next to consulting regarding test standards and methods, questions associated with material properties, failure analysis and expertise are of interest among visitors. Since two years the institute is also member of the OEKO-TEX®-community certifying products and materials according to LEATHER STANDARD by OEKO-TEX® and OEKO-TEX® STANDARD 100 tested for harmful substances.
