Dr Ina Prade, scientist at FILK and group leader "Cell Culture" at the institute

In the margins of its conference 3D Cell Culture 2018, the Gesellschaft für Chemische Technik und Biotechnologie e.V. (DECHEMA) elected new advisory boards for two of its working groups.

In the advisory board of the “Cell Culture Technology” group under the lead of Prof Dr Thomas Noll, chair for cell culture technology at the University Bielefeld, and Prof Dr Roland Wagner, Vice President Bioprocess at Development Rentschler Biotechnologie GmbH, Dr Ina Prade, scientist at FILK and group leader “Cell Culture” at FILK institute will be engaged.

The working group includes members from large pharmaceutical enterprises, SMEs and research institutions with core competences in cell culture technologies. In this context, the DECHEMA working group „Cell Culture Technology“ aims at two main aspects:

  • Increasing efficiency and cost reduction in the manufacture of pharmaceuticals by increasing efficacy of drugs, new expression systems and efficient production processes
  • Improvement of evaluation of pharmaceuticals by reproducible generation of human organotypical cells and tissue structures in vitro based on Tissue Engineering

New approaches in tissue engineering and in stem cell biology with their enormous social, medical and economic implications as well as innovative models for in vitro evaluation of pharmaceuticals contribute to the boost of significance of cell culture technology.

Of crucial importance for a further, sustainable development of cell culture technology will be the linking of currently dominating disciplines like cell biology, molecular biology and bioprocess engineering with the functional genome analysis (esp. transkriptome, proteome, metabolome) and bioinformatics. This will support the developement of cell culture technology from a mainly experimental empiric to a model and theory based discipline.
